Από την εκπαίδευση στη δημόσια ζωή: Το Alexander College στο Cyprus Forum 2026
Με τη συμμετοχή των Metanios El-Halabi και Anthony Chabarekh, το κολέγιο δίνει το παρών στον διάλογο για την εκπαίδευση και τη δημοκρατική συμμετοχή.
Τον ρόλο της εκπαίδευσης στην ενίσχυση της δημοκρατικής συμμετοχής φέρνει στο προσκήνιο το Alexander College, με την παρουσία του στο Cyprus Forum 2026, που πραγματοποιείται από τις 28 έως τις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου στο The Landmark Nicosia. Cyprus Forum 2026
Το κολέγιο συμμετέχει ως Knowledge Partner στη θεματική συζήτηση «Education for Democratic Agency: From Campus to Public Life», η οποία εστιάζει στη σύνδεση της ακαδημαϊκής ζωής με την ενεργό συμμετοχή στα κοινά. Το θέμα ανοίγει έναν ουσιαστικό διάλογο για το πώς η γνώση και η εκπαιδευτική εμπειρία μπορούν να βοηθήσουν τους νέους να αποκτήσουν πιο ενεργό ρόλο στη δημόσια ζωή.
Στο πάνελ συμμετέχει ο Καθηγητής Metanios El-Halabi, Πρόεδρος του Alexander College, ενώ στον συντονισμό της συζήτησης περιλαμβάνεται ο Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής Anthony Chabarekh, Ακαδημαϊκός Διευθυντής του κολεγίου, μαζί με τον Christos Ioannou, Human Resources Officer του EYP, σύμφωνα με το ανακοινωμένο πρόγραμμα.
Τη συζήτηση πλαισιώνουν ο Δρ Alain Daou από το American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo), η Μαρία Μιλτιάδου, Αναπληρώτρια Εκτελεστική Διευθύντρια του Οργανισμού Νεολαίας Κύπρου, και η Δρ Alessia Chiriatti, επικεφαλής της IAI Academy του Istituto Affari Internazionali. Η σύνθεση του πάνελ φέρνει στην ίδια συζήτηση εκπροσώπους της ανώτερης εκπαίδευσης, της νεολαίας και των διεθνών υποθέσεων.
Από το ακαδημαϊκό περιβάλλον μέχρι τη συμμετοχή στα κοινά, η θεματική θέτει ένα καίριο ερώτημα: πώς μπορεί η εκπαίδευση να προετοιμάζει ανθρώπους που κατανοούν τις κοινωνικές προκλήσεις, διαμορφώνουν τεκμηριωμένη άποψη και συμμετέχουν στη δημοκρατική ζωή; Η παρουσία του Alexander College εντάσσει την οπτική του ιδρύματος σε αυτόν τον ευρύτερο διάλογο για τη σχέση εκπαίδευσης και κοινωνίας.
Το Cyprus Forum διοργανώνεται από το Oxygen for Democracy και συγκεντρώνει εκπροσώπους της πολιτικής, της ακαδημαϊκής κοινότητας, του δημόσιου και ιδιωτικού τομέα και της κοινωνίας των πολιτών, με στόχο την ανταλλαγή ιδεών και προτάσεων για ζητήματα δημόσιας πολιτικής.

Alexander College is taking part in Cyprus Forum 2026, bringing the relationship between education and democratic participation into focus. The forum is taking place from 28 to 30 September at The Landmark Nicosia. Cyprus Forum 2026
The college is the Knowledge Partner for the panel discussion “Education for Democratic Agency: From Campus to Public Life”, which explores the connection between academic life and active citizenship. The theme opens a discussion on how knowledge and educational experiences can help young people play a more active role in public life.
Professor Metanios El-Halabi, President of Alexander College, is among the panel speakers. Associate Professor Anthony Chabarekh, the college’s Academic Director, is listed in the published programme as co-chairing the discussion alongside Christos Ioannou, Human Resources Officer at EYP.
The panel also features Dr Alain Daou of the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo); Maria Miltiadou, Deputy Executive Director of the Youth Board of Cyprus; and Dr Alessia Chiriatti, Head of IAI Academy at the Istituto Affari Internazionali. Together, the participants bring perspectives from higher education, youth engagement and international affairs.
From campus life to civic participation, the theme raises a central question: how can education prepare people to understand social challenges, form informed opinions and participate in democratic life? Alexander College’s involvement brings the institution’s perspective into this wider conversation about the relationship between education and society.
Organised by Oxygen for Democracy, Cyprus Forum brings together representatives from politics, academia, the public and private sectors, and civil society to exchange ideas and proposals on public policy.
