ANNOUNCEMENT OCTOBER 2nd 2018 INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR FARM ANIMALS OCTOBER 4th 2018 – WORLD DAY FOR ANIMALS

Oct. 4 has been established as World Animal Day. (as well as the 2^nd of October dedicated to Farm Animals). This day is not accidental since it coincides with the commemoration of the memory of Saint Francis of Assisi, environment and animal protector.

It was first celebrated in 1931 at a conference of environmentalists in Florence, as a way of raising awareness of endangered animals.

Of course, this day is not suitable for festivals and celebrations, but it is an opportunity for humans to become seriously aware of the great destruction they have brought resulting from their thoughtless, wasteful and unbridled way of life and to find ways to curb this great destruction.

Specifically, before the appearance of humans on planet Earth, new species appeared at a faster rate than the old ones disappeared, gradually leading to greater biodiversity.

Today, this trend seems to have been permanently reversed. At least 100 to 1,000 species per million disappear every year, and this is because of the complete dominance of humans on planet Earth,

Animal Party Cyprus takes seriously that even on our small island there is a serious problem, given the dangers facing our very vulnerable ecosystem and the regular destruction of large green areas by fires, not to mention loss of habitat resulting from development. In order to sensitize the state, the state and the citizens, APC will organize the following events and actions:

1. Nicosia: On October 4th, an APC Delegation and Party President will deliver a detailed report on animal welfare issues such as zoos, exotic animals, illegal or legitimate imports of exotics, pending regulations at the Attorney General’s Office, the question of animal police, the success of the government’s sterilization program and what will ultimately be done with the issues of farm animals, slaughterhouses, transport of livestock etc. Also on the same day and after visiting the Presidential Palace, the party delegation will visit the two presidential dogs to offer them various ‘goodies’.
2. Limassol: Members of APC will set up a small pavilion at Gr. Afxentiou square (Anexartisias str) and distribute information material on animal welfare legislation, procedures for reporting cruelty cases, information on dog shelters in Limassol and how citizens can adopt dogs etc.
3. Paphos: at the Castle Square at Kato Paphos, Animal Party Cyprus in collaboration with the Hope for Strays dog shelter will arrange to distribute leaflets and at the same time there will be rescued dogs available for adoption from the above shelter.
4. Larnaca: Presentation on “How can you become the best friend of your best friend”. The presentation will be given by our APC member and a Dog Behaviorist Abraham Themistocleous. The presentation will be held at the Flamingo Hotel in Larnaca from 18.00 to 19.00.
5. Famagusta: Animal Party Cyprus in cooperation with the Private Veterinary Clinic Medved (Paralimni) clinic will be offering free microchip placement and free registration in the veterinary services (electronically) system. The offer will be for one person, one dog. Also leaflets and other informative material will be distributed.

ANIMAL PARTY CYPRUS – OCTOBER 2018
